Position of Power

by James Garcia on Wed Oct 08, 2008 3:18 pm

“For of those to whom much is given, much is required” –John F. Kennedy. We live in a society unlike many others. In each of our lives every day there are countless previliges that the rest world may never know. Each one of us uses an average of $1,000.00 of electricity every year, however rarely do we think of the 1.6 billion people (a quarter of humanity) who don’t have that same luxury. Our daily living expense is almost immeasurable and can be considered royal in comparison to the 3.14 billion (over half the world!!) who live on less than $2.50 a day. These figures are shocking, not only to see how unfortunate many parts of our world are but also to recognize some of our advantages, which usually go unnoticed. It is natural to eventually wonder why so many people would be born into these poverty-stricken situations and say life isn’t always fair, but maybe the real question is what we are supposed to make of our blessings?

Have you ever felt under privileged or disadvantaged?

Have you felt fortunate to be who you are?

Should you feel bad about having the things you do?

Do you believe you are as grateful as you should be?

Can this world be changed?
